GameAbove is highlighting a dedicated GE Aerospace recruiting initiative that is making it easier for students at Eastern Michigan University's GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology to explore where a career in aerospace could take them.

The effort gives GameAbove College students a direct, year-round connection to internships, co-ops, leadership development programs and full-time opportunities with GE Aerospace. It was led within the company by Kristin Young, an EMU alumna who serves as Principal Technical Program Manager at GE Aerospace and as a GameAbove Advisory Board Member for STEM Education.

For Young, the work is about helping students see possibilities that may not yet feel visible or attainable.

"Creating this connection is about helping students see where their skills can take them and making the next step feel within reach," Young said. "When students can engage directly with engineers, learn how the work is done and understand the opportunities available, they begin to picture themselves contributing to the future of flight."

A Year-Round Connection for GameAbove College Students

The GE Aerospace Eastern Michigan University recruiting page introduces GameAbove College students to a campus team of engineers, material specialists and business leaders who can help them learn about career paths and connect beyond the traditional career-fair setting.

Students at the college can use the platform to explore internships and co-ops, leadership programs and new-graduate opportunities. The page also identifies EMU's STEM Job & Internship Fair on Oct. 7, 2026, as an upcoming opportunity to meet the GE Aerospace team on campus.

Building on the College's Industry Connections

The recruiting effort builds on Young's record of creating meaningful connections between GameAbove College students and the aerospace industry.

In March 2024, Young helped make possible a student visit to GE Aerospace's Grand Rapids facility. Students studying aviation flight technology, aviation management technology, and electrical and computer engineering explored manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering processes, including the development and testing of aircraft flight-recording systems.

For electrical and computer engineering student Caleb Johnson, the experience changed how he viewed his own future. "Before this experience, I had not considered applying for my degree in the aerospace industry," he said following the visit. He later identified aerospace as the field he most wanted to enter.

"Applied learning becomes especially powerful when students can connect what they study in the classroom with the people, technologies and expectations shaping an industry," said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. "This initiative gives our students another meaningful way to explore aerospace careers, build professional relationships and prepare to contribute with confidence."

The same philosophy guided a GameAbove-supported visit to Gulfstream Aerospace in 2022. Ten students from the GameAbove College traveled from Willow Run Airport to Gulfstream's headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, for a firsthand look at aircraft design, testing and assembly. They met industry professionals, explored possible internships and careers, and returned with a clearer picture of where their studies could lead.

From Education to Opportunity

These experiences reflect GameAbove's long-term commitment to helping students at the college connect education with real opportunity. Since the college was named in 2021, GameAbove's contributions to the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology have exceeded $8 million, supporting scholarships, expanded access, academic programs and hands-on learning aligned with high-demand careers.

"GameAbove invests to help turn education into opportunity," said Chao Sun, vice president, Investments & Giving at GameAbove. "Supporting strong academic programs is one part of that commitment. Building bridges to employers, mentors and real career possibilities is how that investment continues to create value for students long after they enter the classroom."

The GE Aerospace initiative adds another valuable point of connection for the GameAbove College. It helps students move from imagining an aerospace career to understanding the steps, relationships and opportunities that can make that career possible.
