George Gervin Statue Unveiling Recap
A statue honoring "The Ice Man" and his famous finger roll was unveiled today, August 31, outside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Gervin and his family attended the ceremony to witness the unveiling of the solid bronze statue. The statue stands at 16-foot-8, including the basketball in Gervin's hand and its base.
The artist, Benjamin Victor, created the statue in Boise, Idaho before it was transported to Ypsilanti. The project took nearly 20 months from start to finish, including the planning, creation, and installation of the statue.
