Stuart Grehan added another defining achievement to an exceptional season by helping Great Britain and Ireland reclaim the Walker Cup in dramatic fashion.

Playing before a home crowd at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland, Grehan delivered two pivotal singles victories over world No. 1 amateur Preston Stout. His performance helped GB&I defeat the United States, 13½-12½, and capture the trophy for the first time since 2015.

Grehan finished the Sept. 5-6 competition with a 2-1-1 record and 2.5 points, tying for the highest total on the GB&I team.

A Comeback Within the Comeback

Grehan’s impact was evident from the opening day.

He and teammate Eliot Baker earned a half-point in Saturday morning’s foursomes match against Stout and Ethan Fang. Grehan then produced one of the weekend’s most memorable performances during the afternoon singles session.

After falling three holes behind Stout early in the match, Grehan remained composed. He entered the 16th hole two down but won each of the final three holes, completing the comeback with a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 18. The victory sent the Irish crowd into celebration and helped GB&I take a 6½-5½ lead into Sunday.

The momentum shifted the following morning when the United States swept all four foursomes matches, leaving GB&I three points behind entering the final singles session.

Grehan again drew Stout in the opening singles match. Once more, he rallied from two holes down, defeating the top-ranked American, 2 and 1, to contribute an early point to GB&I’s historic charge.

The home team won seven of the 10 available singles points to complete the largest final-session comeback in Walker Cup history. Josh Hill secured the deciding point on the 18th hole, ending the United States’ run of five consecutive Walker Cup victories.

Another Milestone Season

The Walker Cup triumph continues a remarkable year for Grehan. In June, the Irish golfer won The 131st Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool, earning a place in The Open Championship and other major championship opportunities.

Grehan joined GameAbove Golf’s roster of sponsored athletes in July. His ties to the GameAbove community extend to Eastern Michigan University, where he competed for the men’s golf program during the 2012-13 season.

His performance at Lahinch reflected the competitive resolve, patience and ability to deliver under pressure that have defined his return to elite amateur golf.
